This was our first stay here. We have an XL tent with a family of 5 and there was plenty of room on the plot. The toilets and shower rooms were always clean. A very friendly and helpful welcome when we arrived. There is a spacious area for the kids to play. There's plenty to do in the area and has a great local shop and takeaway just 5 minutes up the road. We loved it so much there, were already wanting to book again.

Just had a great week camping here. Nice flat and well maintained field. Plenty of room between pitches and plenty of water points. Toilets and showers were clean and well kept. Owner not obtrusive but there if needed. Picnic tables dotted around the field for anyone to use. May get busy at popular times of year. We will be back at some point. Really enjoyed the stay. We don't use ehu but lots on site.

Thank you for a great stay.
We arrived on Friday afternoon and found a lovely area to pitch the tent.
The reception was helpful and the farmers were super. Always around to give a helping hand.
We left the lights on in the car and ran down the battery but 2 jolly men came and saved the day allowing us to get back on the road.
The site was perfect for what we needed. Loads of room, facilities excellent and clean. The location was great, We had a day out on the stream and diesel trains so taxi to Pickering int he morning and taxi back. Was a tenner for 4 of us one way.
Great weekend break.

Fantastic site on a working farm but the campsite is not an after thought. It is very well looked after, 2 toilets and showers always spotless and clean £1 for 5 minutes for a shower, a wash up area under cover with lots of local info and useful telephone numbers. The pitches are large so ideal if you have a large tent like we do and don't have to pay for 2 pitches if your family tent is over 5m long. Very reasonable price per night including EHU. We only live local to the site but will be going back for weekend breaks for sure.

We visited this site for the first time last weekend, what a great spot. Our friends hired a pod at the same time and they were equally pleased. The camping field was flat and the grass was well cared for, the hook up pitches were big enough to fit our quite large caravan lengthways with loads of room to spare. The facilities were immaculate yes it's £1 for a shower but it's more than enough time and what can you buy for a pound?
The pods were big enough for six people and they have the added bonus of a fridge, there only two it it's good value(there are also cottages to rent).
High Grundon is an excellent location with access to Whitby, Scarborough, York etc all within easy reach.
It's a great site in a pleasant part of the country, it's ran by friendly helpful people who care what you think.
We will definitely go back.
Great spot

This is a quiet site on a working farm, situated on a minor road. Very easy-going staff. Flat field with a hedge around most of it for shelter. Two shower/toilet/washbasin units and 2 separate toilets. Showers are operated by £1 coin meter for 5 minutes of very hot water. Small kitchen area (under cover) with very hot water and a freezer and an electric kettle available.
There ae EHUs available if you want that. Visitors were staying in a a mix of motorhomes, caravans and tents. There are also 2 'Pods' for hire. Some road noise could be heard at times, but it is a minor road, so was not really intrusive.
There are no specific facilities for children and the site is probably more suited to adults who are looking for a quiet relaxing site. The nearest pubs are in the village of Thornton Le Dale (2 miles away). Both serve food. There is a small 'Nisa' mini-market there too and several cafes. There is also a small vintage motor museum there, which I found interesting. The larger village of Pickering is 4 miles away and has a Lidl and Co-Op supermarket. There is a scenic drive through Dalby Forest nearby and several antique/collectors' shops in the surrounding area, if that's your thing. This is an ideal site for mature people wanting a relaxing break away from it all.

Thornton le Dale is a lovely place with a good mixture of shops and places to eat.
We spent Saturday in Pickering where the kids went swimming and Sunday at Dalby Forest which included a visit to the awesome Go Ape (not for the faint hearted.
Overall this is one of the best CLs that we have used we and will be back to visit in the near future

We found the site very clean and well presented, flat field and well maintained pot wash and ablutions. Planty of hot water and a very handy clean fridge for site use. No children's play park on site which for us is ok.
To have only two showers and toilets, was a little surprising as it is quite a large site. I would not like to think of the length of the queue when the site was full. The showers' were £1. 00 for 4-5 minutes of hot water, very expensive I thought.
The site is within 2 miles of the local village/town which has a couple of nice pubs and a few useful shops, a lovely Yorkshire feeling to the whole area.
We spoke to the owners regarding the 2 ablutions and were informed some more are going to be built later this year and that the shower time would be adjusted to a longer time, a good move I think.
Overall a very nice site in a great location but needs some improvement in the areas described, if those improvements are implemented then this site would get a score of 10 from me.

Just got back from camping here in tent with two dogs and all I can say is what a great camp site this is. There are 'no frills' and this is just what we were looking for, but there is a very friendly welcome, lots of beautiful views and adequate facilities. Yes, it would be better if the toilets were separate to the showers, but, because of the beautiful location, it was forgiveable. Having two dogs, it was great to have the lane across the road to walk into Thornton le Dale as the main road is busy and it is fast and to us not really suitable to walk your dogs on. There is a lot is space and as mentioned, the views were breathtaking. We will definitely return, particularly as we became members of Dalby Forest which is 5 minutes away and which to us was one of the best finds ever. Having a busy working cocker, it has some great walks and we were able to find peace and quiet despite the school holidays. Would highly recommend the Site and the area, but we are biased as we are from Yorkshire :)

Stayed here twice now and it's well recommended. It's a peaceful large site with plenty of space. Access is good even for large caravans or motorhome. Easy to get too and close to Thornton le dale, just east of Pickering. It's about 1. 5 miles walk into Thornton le dale which is a postcard little village with two pubs and numerous cafés and small shops. Dalby forest is on its doorstep and the coast not that far away.
Stephen the site manager is most welcoming and very friendly. No long list of do this and do that just enjoy yourself and be considerate to others. No parking within inches to the white peg just park as you like as there is so much space. Toilets and showers are very clean and washing facilities for plates and pans etc.Date of Visit: August 2013Unit: TentRating:

Just got back from a 4 day break at This site. This is a quality camp site, clean and tidy. Showers spotless, as was the rest of the facilities. We walked to Thornton Le Dale which is just over a mile and a half away. The best way to walk is straight out of the site cross the road and go down the lane opposite, keep walking until you come to a right turn, follow the road to the right and keep walking. It's brings you out back on the main road about half a mile from the village. Better than walking the whole way on the main road. Takes about 40/60 mins. Had a bar snack sat in beer garden of The Buck, good value and very nice! You can get the bus from the middle of the village all the way to Helmsley, we did this and called at Kirkby Moorside for a few beers on the way back! Very nice place we will be back!

Just returned from a stay over the Bank Holiday Weekend, a warm welcome when we arrived. The site is tidy with generous sized pitches which were flat and well drained. There are two wet rooms which are excellent, it is £1 for the shower. There is a covered area for washing dishes. Thornton le Dale is a short walk away although there isn't a footpath for about half the distance. Thornton le Dale is a lovely village with a few small shops including a Nisa supermarket, butchers and Post Office. There are a few tea shops and three pubs, good food in both the New Inn and the Buck, both have nice beer gardens and are dog friendly. We didn't try the other pub but have been told it is also very good. It was the Scarecrow Festival which seems to be well supported by the local residents and there was also a band performing on the Village Green. The site is well situated for visiting the East Coast and the North Yorks Moors. The only improvement I could suggest is that there should be separate toilets as there is sometimes quite a wait if people are showering saying that we will definitely return.Date of Visit: July 2013Unit: TentRating:

We stayed at this site for 3 nights in July 2013 and found it to be very clean, friendly, quiet and relaxed.
The pitch sizes were ample and level.
Trying to find a negative to give is difficult but could be picky and say the showers, the reason being that it cost £1 for 5 minutes. I found that to be quite expensive as the time passes quickly and there is no warning and the water just stops.
Other than that I could find no other complaints. We would definitely return and recommend.

We visited this site at the start of June 2013.
We stayed for 2 nights and really enjoyed it, we have a large tent with electric, 2 adults and a little dog.
On the site there are 2 wet rooms which are at a very high standard, the showers cost £1 for 5 minutes. The showers are the best I've seen on a campsite, the only down side is that the toilets are in the same room as the showers so if you need the toilet and both of the showers are occupied then you have to wait, having said that I think I only waited once for a few minutes and the site was quite full. If your in a caravan then you won't have this problem. I do think that the site would benefit from a couple of separate toilet blocks though.
The site is about 1. 5 miles to the village of Thornton le dale and it's a nice walk, there isn't a path on the road but you don't get that much traffic so we just stood to the side if a car came past.
In the village there are some shops, a chip shop and a couple of good pubs, there's the New inn and the Buck inn, both are nice inside and both have beer gardens.
It's a really picturesque village with streams running through and great walks through the woods.
Pickering is also just a 10 minute car drive
The site is well maintained and the manager was really helpful, all in all we loved it and on our departure booked for August bank holiday.
Can't wait

Fabulous local shops at thornton le Dale inc. Nisa Shop and local butchers.
The site itself was fabulous, very flat and well drained with good washing up ares and newly built toilet and shower facilities that were heated, and internet access was free which was a bonus and showers were £1 for 5 mins.
All in all a fabulous site that we will be visiting again.

Celebrated my 50th birthday weekend of 10-12th May at High Grundon with tent and caravan pitches booked.
Facilities are spotless. Pitches are spacious. Nice views. Location is great for exploring all the delights of North Yorkshire. Thornton is pretty village.
The owner could not have been more helpful in both the booking arrangements and also making the weekend run smoothly. When the wind took the party marquees, they were beyond repair. The owner organised use of the barn with the farmer and it was best party venue ever!
Some of my family/friends stayed in the cottages -handy for everyone to get together. They were of a very high standard.
Have been before and already booked to return. Next time for a peaceful weekend, as the site is usually very quiet!

Stayed for a weekend in our tent, had EHU at great prices.
Lovely flat well drained pitches. Five hard standings for caravans or motorhomes.
Depending on where you pitch there is some road noise.
Open fields to the front and side allow the wind to be felt. Hedgerows have been cut back and wind resistance may improve once the leaves are back on.
Some cracking sunsets to be had from this site and will be a star gazers paradise.
Good clean modern facilities, though the showers are £2 for 12 mins and it starts ticking down the minute you drop your coin in. Constant hot water for pot washing.
Plenty of information available for the surrounding area.
Warden on hand when needed, But not that you would know.

We have just spent a couple of nights at this site and it was superb, excellent facilities, friendly owner and red hot weather. An ideal base to visit local attractions such as the North Yorks Moor railway at Pickering and the beach at Whitby.
Thornton Le Dale is a lovely place with some interesting shops and a couple of decent pubs offering good food at reasonable prices. The site was well laid out with flat pitches and an excellent shower block, but the biggest plus is the amount of grass available for the kids to play on without having to worry about disturbing the peace of other users.
All in all a great weekend and we are sure to visit again.
